Timely reminder for everyone Australia wide......
we used to have an arsonist in Albury on the NSW Border...every year almost without fail. we had very high winds on New Years Day...and every year there were several fires lit on the hills close to the city centre....
then a couple of years ago the fires stopped....I have been living in Melb for 20 years but spend every xmas and NY in Albury....about 2 years ago I watched an abc documentary about an arsonist....it turned out to be the one from Albury....think he had been doing it since about 6 years old....in his 20's now and the police were finally watching him...he would wait for a very high windy day on the weather forecast, then travel there and light the fires...he went to Sydney and even Brisbane.....I dont think they put him in jail.....I think he was back lighting fires in Albury last year

and last year or was it this year saw another similar show...again the arsonist was not jailed, he in fact was a volunteer fireman...he too travelled all over the country to light fires....he was put on an honourary bond or something....the tv crew kept watching him and caught him lighting fires again...which he denied....

I am appalled at the courts and authorities for allowing these people to remain free.....they cause massive losses to the farmers and homeowners and loss of life....all the native and farm animals die a nagonising death...

wondered when I saw this on tonight news if anyone is remotely interested in bringing these people to justice.

Would not take too much to set Perth alight today or for the next few days.

Tragic how these arsonists need to get attention or becoming needed by the attention derived from such destructive actions. Results are horrendous and amazing the damage caused in a short period of time. Still looking for semi rural in the East in Perth and anything that even resembles having a fire threat is off the shopping list!

I really have a problem accepting that all these fires are lit by arsonists. Seems like every fire is "deliberately" lit these days. What do they determine as being deliberate... someone throwing a cigarette butt out the window? That's not arson (stupid, but not arson). And how do they determine it was deliberate? Probably easier with property fires but bush fires.

Seems like everytime a fire starts and there is no obvious cause, then let's blame arsonists.
